Internet allows professionals to work 'virtually' anywhere

I work in my swimsuit and take conference calls in my pool. I may be writing an article at two in the morning, but taking my son to the park at two in the afternoon, laptop under my arm. My cell phone is my business phone.
I'm one of the ever-growing number of virtual professionals who are changing the way business is done, thanks to the advent of widespread, affordable broadband access. In the current economic climate and job market, it's the way many professionals are finding to be able to put in the long hours and still maintain some family and personal time, while avoiding the expenses of commuting, child care, etc.
No longer just for techies, working virtually is becoming more and more common among architects, management consultants, counselors, journalists—just about anyone whose job is centered around information and communication. And virtual professionals are not necessarily free agents or sole practitioners—many are small businesses with employees, often virtual themselves.
Web designer and internet marketing consultant Eileen Parzek of SOHO It Goes! recently conducted a survey of virtual professionals and has summarized her findings and analysis in The Business Review. Read the full article
