Nothing imparts credibility quite like the words "Author of such-and-such book" after your name. Countless small business owners have leveraged books to establish them as experts in their fields, either launching new businesses as a result, or adding credibility to an existing business.

But a book isn't just a marketing tool—it's a venture all its own. So whether you think of yourself as an entrepreneur writing the book to promote your business, or as an author, and the book is your business, treat it like a start-up all its own, or it may just become a very expensive hobby.
