Small-business owners need supply of emotional capital

In a guest column for Midwest Voices, entrepreneurial coach Donna Colding says that small-business owners need a healthy supply of emotional capital (free registration).
"For small-business owners with sparse resources and insufficient revenue streams, the emotional ups and downs are magnified by the weight of responsibility. What is normally at stake is not only the business but also their home, family savings and household income."
Business disappointments are inevitable, she says, but they're the learning experience that will allow the next attempt to be successful. To get that necessary support, she recommends joining a professional organization related to your business.
"Such groups offer support systems and networking opportunities that often open new doors when others close. It may seem like a luxury in the beginning when your business is struggling, but in the long run, the emotional and tangible benefits will far outweigh the membership investment."
