I'm just starting up my first internet business. It seems like all the good names I come up with are already taken. How do I come up with a great original name?

Dear Nameless:

I know it seems like the great names are already taken, but I promise you they really aren't. At least once a month, I come up with a great idea for an online business name and go buy the domain if it's available. I figure at $8, what have I got to lose?

A great business name is the beginning of a great brand. It should be memorable, easy to use, and create a certain feeling when heard. For a quick how-to on creating one and making sure it's not already used, see How To Create a Great Business Name.

Since your business is online, there are some additional considerations regarding the domain name(s). Choosing a domain name is an important part of the overall marketing process and should not be taken lightly. Make sure your domain name represents your company, product and image, and you'll be setting a great foundation for future sales. For more on this, see Tips on Selecting a Domain Name.
