The story of Wordpress is the story of blogging, and the story of Matt Mullenweg is the story of Wordpress. In the past three years, it has grown from one little branch of an open source project into the #2 blogging software in the world (we use it here at About), with an average of over 5,000 downloads a day. Recently, they also launched a free hosted blog service, Wordpress.com, and a collaborative spam prevention tool Akismet.
I first met Matt back in Houston about three years ago when he was just out of high school, doing a variety of web work and had just taken on the role as volunteer lead developer on Wordpress. Now, he's a bona fide Internet celebrity (search for "Matt" in Google and he's the #1 result) and running a growing, successful business with several employees.
I caught up with Matt at SXSW (South by Southwest Interactive Festival) and chatted with him about the success of Wordpress, open source business models, and the future of business blogging.
It's also available as a podcast via our RSS feeds.
