All Hail the Entrepreneur

Tuesday November 7, 2006
The latest Newsweek has a great piece from Carl Schramm entitled All Hail the Entrepreneur which looks at how "[e]ntrepreneurship is transforming America -- not just for a few, but for all of us and for the better." Now this idea isn't new -- it's been talked about for years by authors like Dan Pink and James Martin, but the important point that Schramm makes is that our educational institutions and our tax and regulatory policies really haven't kept up with the change.

Schramm is president and CEO of the Kauffman Foundation, and author of The Entrepreneurial Imperative. Watch for my upcoming interview with him here on About, in which we'll go into some of these issues in more detail.

That is absolutely true! While I don’t see how any educational institution by its very nature could ever keep up with the change or know how to.

The tax and regulatory issues have a similar problem in that they’re huge organizations that are so far behind what’s happening in the business world that they would have to go through a massive change to even be in a place of keeping up with change.

I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.

I think the shift is coming. Its taking a lot to get - and until then, the gaps in education and tax are an issue, but it’ll change, though maybe not as quickly as we’d like.

Its a great article - thanks for highlighting it.
