"100 Business Startup Ideas for Under $100" Contest - Submit Your Ideas by December 31st

The 10 Under $20 article, which lists ten business ideas that you can start on a shoestring budget, has consistently been the #1 or #2 most popular article on this site, attracting thousands of weekly readers. It has prompted numerous suggestions for additions from readers. However, many have pointed out that a budget of, say, $100, would be a bit more realistic.

So, I'm going to assemble a list of "100 Under $100"—legitimate business concepts that you can get started with for under $100, and I'm looking for your input!

Submission guidelines:
  1. The entry must be describe a business idea or opportunity that can be legitimately started for $100 or less, including reasonable marketing and promotion to obtain the first customers.
  2. Entries should be 300-600 words and should include a brief summary of the job opportunity, the skills or training that may be required, how one might go about getting started, and a budget as to how one should spend the $100.
  3. For a great example, see Business Startup Idea: Home Caregiver.
  4. Entries should be submitted via e-mail to entrepreneurs.guide@about.com and must include the following text:
"I certify that I am the author or sole owner of the material I am submitting to About.com. About.com and its licensees may reproduce, distribute, publish, display, edit, modify, create derivative works and otherwise use the material for any purpose in any form and on any media. I agree to indemnify About.com for all damages and expenses that may be incurred in connection with the material. For more information, please see our user agreement."
  5. The 100 best entries will be published on About.com and in an e-book format in early 2004. ALL entrants will receive a copy of the e-book. The published entries will also receive an extended byline and a link to your business site in the byline.
  6. All types of (legal) businesses will be considered. However, please note that a maximum of one entry per opportunity type will be published.

This is a great opportunity both to share your knowledge and promote your business to several thousand weekly readers, all for a very small investment of your time.
