Getting the Most Out of This Site

By Scott Allen, About.com

This site is maintained by Scott Allen, your About.com Guide to Entrepreneurs. While we strive to keep the navigation and organization of the site intuitive, taking a few moments here to orient yourself will help you use this site more efficiently and effectively.

The Entrepreneurs site is designed to help those who are interested in starting a business or are in the early startup stage. The goal of this site is to help users do three main things:

  1. Decide whether starting a business is a good idea for you
  2. Decide what kind of business to start if you don't have an idea
  3. Cut through the red tape and confusion and figure out how to do things like:
    • Incorporate or choose not to incorporate
    • Obtain any necessary business licenses
    • Apply for loans, venture capital, or other types of funding
    • Get involved in a franchise program or buy an existing business
    • Hire employees or outsource work
    • Rent an office or retail space or establish a home office
    • Move from startup into operations
We don't assume that you have any prior knowledge of business practices or terms. In fact, we've provided a glossary of entrepreneurial and small business terms for your edification.

While we invite all interested readers to browse here, those with established small businesses may find more relevant information in the Small Business Information GuideSite or one of the other sites in the Small Business Channel. Those looking to invest in entrepreneurial ventures will want to visit one of our investment sites in the Money Channel.
