DocStore Aims to Save Small Businesses Time & Money

From , former About.com Guide

Small business owners often have to reinvent the wheel, or the document, as their businesses grow. Wouldn't it be nice if you could use a document that already exists and just download it? Even if it costs $25 or so, you'd gladly pay that much or more for a time savings of days.

Guess what? No need to reinvent. Docstoc, a two-year-old online community and marketplace for finding professional documents, has introduced DocStore, a new service aimed at small businesses that allows users to post and sell their own documents.

For example, if you need a business plan tempate, letter of intent, any kind of document for a real estate transaction, or legal agreements of various kinds, you can go to DocStore and search or browse for the appropriate documents, and then purchase and download the ones that apply to your need. You can also take documents you have created and upload them to the repository, establish a price, and sell them to others.

For document shoppers, DocStore has categories like Academia (Class Outlines, Essays), Agreements (all kinds of contracts, joint venture agreement templates, loan agreements, termination/severance), Business Resources (everything from cover letters to financial planning to job search tools,) Books (Management, Novels, Self-Improvement), Legal Forms, Research Report and more.

Docstoc has created an incentive for users to upload and sell documents by allowing them to keep 100% of the revenue generated from their documents for the first 60 days they are available. After 60 days, revenue is shared between the document owner and Docstoc. The company provides a dashboard for document owners so they can see how many people viewed and purchased their documents. Users can also easily change the price of their documents, and add or delete available documents.
