Reader Submissions: Tell Your Entrepreneurship Story

From Renette Torres

What I Did:

After being successful in the retail jewelry industry for several years,I became a manufacturer's rep for a large international watch company, placing me definitely in a man's world. Because of something I said accidentally "off the top of my head" to six casino buyers in Reno, I was hurled into the start-up of my own unique watch & clock business. I designed, manufactured, imported and marketed my animated time products, from which I became extremely successful.I have just written & published a book titled Ya Wanna Watch?I'll Let Ya!Amazing, upbeat sales tales from an almost 81 year old energetic kid.

How I Did It:

Utilizing my comic personality, making buyers & customers always put them and myself at ease. I learned all about the products I sold at the retail level, always in my own way found out something of the individual I was dealing with.I was always honest in my scheme of selling.Servicing my buyer was utmost the top of the list.I never oversold. Never pushy. Always honest. My motto "start slow and we'll both grow." I always was plotting and thinking of new and different designs for my time products as well as new selling techniques, which are spelled out in my book.Using different sales methods totally diverse from others in my field, whether retail, wholesale, commercial, fortune 500 company logos or mail order.I researched many golden opportunities along the way. Never passed up any new idea that appeared in my brain.I used my imagination. Always creating new designs, placing them on the "back burner" for future sales. Whenever there was a downturn with one of my products, I would quickly turn it into something more innovative and saleable.I never stopped thinking or finding something else to market. How I did it..is all spelled out in my laugh while you learn book,Ya Wanna Watch? I'll Let Ya! by Renette Torres

By the way, I am promoting and marketing the book myself, no literary agent. I have planned book signings & several speaking events, with some great press. After all who can sell me better than me?I find the literary field more difficult than my former business..but withstanding my almost 81 years, I WILL SUCCEED.
