The Moment I Thought We Might Not Make It
After owning several successful restaurants and launching a music festival, I decided to buy a concert venue. It was in a very competitive environment during a difficult time, and within a few months of opening it, we were broke and ready to give up.
How We Turned it Around
My partner and I sat down, under intense pressure, and stared at the walls – feeling completely constrained by them. But then we noticed the clock and had an epiphany: we weren’t constrained by time. Why weren’t we open during the day? That’s when we came up with the idea to do matinee concerts for high school kids, and that alone paid our rent.
Now I advise other entrepreneurs through PerfectBusiness.com. And today, when I talk to retail stores, I ask them, why aren’t they doing evening events? A Friday night fashion show or a concert, when people are off work and looking for something fun to do. I tell them how they can do it at no cost, get into event listings and drive new traffic.
Lessons Learned
- First, you don’t need money to turn things around. You just need to get creative, and realize that you are not constrained by time.
- Look at when your competition is closed, and brainstorm ways to use that time as an opportunity.
- If you don't have money or connections, attend a low-cost entrepreneur and investor event, and you will end up with both. One of the largest and most effective is the Perfect Business Summit. /
