Employer's Market? Not Necessarily for Startups

According to a recent survey from Korn/Ferry International, the current economic conditions may actually be making it harder, not easier, for start-ups to find top-notch executive talent. The survey of over 300 professional recruiters reported that 70% said that it is "significantly harder" now to lure candidates to a new position with a start-up. They say that candidates are risk averse, even for higher-paying positions. And even for those that consider start-ups, the majority are looking for more cash and less equity, higher base salaries and less bonus and incentive pay.
So unless you're prepared to pay top dollar, my recommendation is to look for your professional management among the ranks of the un- and under-employed. There are some very talented people out there not doing for a living what they do best.
