Is MLM or Network Marketing for You? Live Call Monday, July 23

Friday July 20, 2007
Let me tell you the reality of MLM and network marketing: most people either lose money at it or don't make enough money at it to justify the time spent. There... I said it. It flat out doesn't work for almost everyone who tries it.

Guess what? Neither does entrepreneurship. That said, the odds of success in MLM and network marketing are lower than they are generally for entrepreneurship. However, the statistics simply don't tell the whole story. Most of the small businesses looked at in the studies of small business failure have some kind of capital investment. Until we have a side-by-side comparison of businesses that you can start with, say, under $100 in capital and under $500 investment in the first year (and of course, you don't have to spend that in most MLM's), we are still comparing apples and oranges.

But the specifics of the statistics really don't matter to each individual person. We know as entrepreneurs that the odds are against us anyway. What we all hope to do is defy the odds, right? And if 1% of the 15 million or so network marketing and direct selling reps out there are making a living at it, that's 150,000 people. That's not just the people at the top.

The biggest problem with MLM is also its biggest attraction -- the fact that the low cost of participation and the promise of "no experience necessary" attracts many people who don't really have the business skills to be successful at any business, much less MLM. The #1 way to improve your odds of success in network marketing is to improve your general business skills...period. The #2 way? Pick the right company in the first place.

I've been fortunate to meet and get to know some very successful network marketers over the years. Some are now big names in the industry, while others aren't famous, but still very successful. In talking with them, I've discovered that there are several common practices that the best of them have in common. In fact, these really are lessons that every entrepreneur can learn from network marketing.

So if you'd like to know what really works for the most successful network marketers, I'll be discussing this on Todd Falcone's MLM Power Hour podcast live next Monday, July 23rd at 5PM Pacific Time. You can be part of the live call by dialing 641-594-7500 and entering pin code 248873#. The live call is likely to fill up quickly, so you may want to get in early. The replay will be available at the link above.

This is not - I repeat NOT - an "opportunity call" in any way, shape or form. No specific companies will be discussed. Nobody will be recruiting for anything. This is just free information about what really works in network marketing and what doesn't. And who knows? Todd and I may not even agree - we'll see.

Well said.

It really all comes down to education.

Many people get involved and do not realize it is a real business and it needs to be treated as such. It takes hard work to become part of that top 1%.

I dont know who said it first, but the following saying always seems to ring true, “The best thing about network marketing is that anyone can do it, and the worst thing about network marketing is that anyone can do it.”

I look forward to the call, Todd Falcone has great insights.

Be well and good luck to all the brave entrepreneur souls!
